Yuskek=more french electro

2005's Ok Cowboy by Vitalic marked a turning point in my life, it was just one of those albums that was so ground breaking and fresh that I could not put it down. Since then Justice, Busy P's minions (aka the ed banger crew), and everyone at kitsune has been pretty busy have been dropping some pretty awesome tracks, and electro has never been more popular.
Its easy to get lost in all the distortion and compressed low end and dismiss any new artist or trakcs as more of the same. I can't help but say that Yuskek debut album Away From the Sea is just more of the same. Nothng groundbreaking, but they will probably serve as a hot platforms for remixes. Don't get me wrong there are some hot tracks. Break Ya, I Like to Play, So down with Chromeo which feature chromeo's signature lyrical macking, and Eat My bear which reminds me of Vitalic's My Friend Dario, are all solid. The album as a whole is growing on me and I'd recommend it to anybody who likes funky bass lines and distorted synths. Meantime check out the tracks I mentioned above after the jump:

Essential Mixes- the first of many

I've said it before, and you can quote me again, American FM radio is terrible. It's great if you love top 40 and love to hear that kind of stuff over and over and over again, night and day. But thanks to Al Gore there's the Internet, and thanks to the BBC there is Radio1. Radio1 puts on shows like Annie Mac's Mash up, and used to do the Radio1 Breezeblock (still on just under a different name), they still do the Essential Mix hosted by Pete Tong, and provide a platform for a lot of good electronic music to be played, and overall muscial exploration.
So the Essential Mix, which features the best djs and producers in electronic, has been one of the ways I've been discovering artists, producers and djs for sometime. Pete Tong and his guests make my commute bearable. But back to my point, I've been listening to these two mixes a lot over the past few weeks. Be warned they're not new, but they are simply amazing. One is by Greg Wilson and the other by Sebastian Leger.

Greg Wilson's story is an interesting one he's a pretty old dude by my standards, but he's still going in on the turn tables and a reel to reel tape deck for effects. This is him back in the day, check it out:

The mix itself is a nice throwback set with disco, funk and some newer edits of some really good soundage. There's some Talking Heads, and James Brown to drop a few names altogether its a must hear for anybody who likes classic disco or funk and anybody who is a modern hip-hop or electronic head. This is where it how it began, pioneer. The track listing and links to download the mix can be found here

Second Essential Mix comes by way of France via the Netherlands thanks to Sebastien Leger. I admit I didn't know too much about this guy before this mix. I really thought it was another french electro dj/producer named Sebastien/Sebastian. Little did I know... I took a chance and was blown away. I really like his style and the more minimal approach to house, and "techno" that he takes. The big tunes for me that turned out to be sonic jewels were his re-edit of Daft Punk's "Around the World" and rework of Mory Kante's Yeke Yeke- Afro Acid House remix. There are alot of really hot tracks in between them and going into the second hour. Tons of fun. Great to party to, or chill out to with some headphones on. You won't realize where the time went. Track listing and links to download can be found here (scroll down to find his individual mix 5/10/2008)

Btw I'm going to shamelessly plug er7radio.net, go there and find other great essential mixes by deadmau5, MSTRKRFT, Justice, Diplo, the Crookers and Rusko. Peace.

Hey everybody!

I figure its about time I start making some of the things I've been working available for you guys to hear. I'm kinda new to this so some links may not be working properly and that sort of thing, so just let me know. This is where I'll be showcasing the mixes and tracks I've produced, as well as tracks and mixes that I think are great and you should hear. I'll also be posting other tidbits of info on shows, albums, and techy stuff. Basically anything goes music related.

I like a lot of electronic music spanning many different genres and subgenres, so I'll go anywhere from house to dubstep and making stops in between. Hit me back and let me know what you like.

To kick things off here's a mix I just finished putting together. It has a couple of French House throwbacks (Daft Punk mainly), some house, minimal house, and tech house. Nothing too crazy, just having fun. Link to download after the jump
